Many adults are insecure about the appearance of their teeth. Whether from discoloration, chips, or gaps, a picture-perfect smile is within reach using cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Makadia provides a personalized approach using advanced elective procedures. Two of the most popular treatments are porcelain veneers and Lumineers. Although they are similar, there are differences between them. Dr. Makadia recently helped two of our patients achieve their dream smiles using a solution tailored to their specific needs.
Porcelain Veneers vs. Lumineers
A veneer is a custom-made, thin shell that is bonded to the front surface of a tooth to improve its color, size, shape, and proportion. Modern veneers are made of porcelain because it looks natural and allows them to be thinner for a less invasive treatment because more of the enamel is kept intact. Veneers are often preferred over Lumineers because they can treat a variety of imperfections, such as:
- Dark discoloration and stains
- Chipped, cracked, or abnormally shaped teeth
- Shorter than average teeth
- Gaps between teeth
As an alternative to traditional veneers, Lumineers are even thinner. They can be applied quickly because they don’t require any preparation. Although Lumineers may seem like the better option, they have their limitations, so they aren’t right for everyone. They can correct many of the same issues as veneers, such as:
- Discoloration and stains
- Gaps between teeth
- Chipped or cracked teeth
Dr. Makadia takes the time to learn more about a patient’s expectations, lifestyle, and concerns to establish a unique strategy to transform their teeth. Since no two smiles are the same, every treatment is unique. Here’s how Dr. Makadia helped 2 of our patients achieve picture-perfect smiles using solutions tailored to their needs.
Patient #1: Porcelain Veneers
Dr. Makadia recommended veneers for patient #1 because they had various concerns, including stains and minor gaps between teeth. He suggested veneers because they provided quick results and were more cost-effective than other options. Applying veneers to the teeth most visible when smiling created drastic results that will last for a decade or longer with the proper aftercare.
Patient #2: Lumineers
Dr. Makadia used Lumineers to treat stains and other minor imperfections for patient #2. Lumineers are ultra-thin, so there wasn’t any enamel removed during the application process. The patient chose a reversible method that didn’t compromise the results they wanted to significantly improve their smile.
