If you have ever received a dental crown, you might remember a somewhat lengthy treatment process. It might have taken a few weeks for a laboratory to fabricate your restoration! In the meantime, you might have had to wear a temporary crown that required you to take extra precautions when eating. Here at Sunrise Dental Service, Dr. Makadia and our team do things a little differently. Most patients are candidates for CEREC crowns. Just what is a CEREC crown, and how long does it take to make one? This blog post explains.
What Is a CEREC Crown?
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. That is quite a mouthful, but the basic concept is simple. Instead of coordinating with a dental laboratory to create crowns, Dr. Makadia uses in-office technology to fabricate restorations right here in our Long Island dental office. CEREC crowns are sometimes called “one-visit restorations” because the entire process takes just a single appointment to complete!
The CEREC Process
Here is an overview of what you can expect during the CEREC process:
- We will make sure you are comfortable by administering local anesthesia to numb your mouth.
- We will prepare the tooth by removing a bit of its enamel.
- Using special scanning technology, we will take a digital impression of your teeth.
- Dr. Makadia will use advanced software to design your crown. Its size, shape, and even its color will all be customized to fit in perfectly with your unique smile.
- An in-office milling machine will create your crown out of top-quality dental ceramic.
- After our team verifies that the crown meets our rigorous quality standards, we will permanently attach it to your tooth.
You may not have to wear a temporary crown or make multiple trips to our office. You can arrive with a damaged tooth and leave with new confidence in your smile!
How Long Does the Process Take?
The CEREC process is much faster than what you would experience with a traditional crown. However, it does still take a bit of time. You should plan on being in our office for at least a couple of hours or can always get temporary crown and come back within a day or two to get permanent crown
Do you have questions about CEREC crowns? Dr. Makadia and our team would love to satisfy your curiosity about this remarkable technology!
